What Happens to the Soul of a Clinically Dead Person in Coma?

Dear Sister Sonia and dear brother-in-law Ong Geok Soo.

Here are the answers to both of you for your two questions you asked in the other WhatsApp chat:

I received this question from Sister Sonia Soon in a WhatsApp chat group who asked me this question. I quote:

“What happens to the soul, the metaphysical energy and the physical body system when a person is under coma...can you enlighten me on this?

Thank you Sifu”.

Here’s my answer for her:

As long as his heart is still beating, and his lungs are still breathing and other organs and body systems are still functioning even with artificial support, he is biologically alive, and his soul is still with him even though he is in a coma.

It is only when he is physically and biologically dead, that his soul is no longer in control of his body chemistry for some time, that his soul will leave his body.

Another way of putting this is, as long as the person who is clinically unresponsive to any stimulus – light, sound, mechanical, neurological, pain, etc, he is considered clinically dead, but at cellular, tissues, organs, system and biochemical levels, he is biologically still alive even though he may be on artificial life support.

In such a biological scenario, his soul remains with his body because his soul needs to control all those life biochemistries to keep him biologically alive with the souls of the doctors and critical-care nurses supporting and helping his dying body as directed by their Maker. But once all artificial life support is withdrawn, life chemistries will still remain a few moments on, but not for long. I shall explain this shortly using the parable of a lighted lamp.

It is at this moment of critical decision by the souls of the doctors, the critical-care nurses, and family members, that his soul does not wish the control from the souls of the doctors, the health providers, and family members anymore, that his soul decides to leave his body and flies away.

Life is the breath of God, and it has to be returned to Him at some point in time. It is His sole prerogative when it should be returned to Him as life is His rightful property. Let no man, doctors and family members included, interfere with God’s decision.

I often believe the soul of a Good Samaritan or the soul of a doctor without them realizing it, will come to the aid of a dying person so that the other soul can remain. It was our soul appearing in the form of our conscience with love and compassion that often caused us to aid another soul. The soul is the breath of God, and it is His nature to help and to preserve with immense love. This said, sometimes Satan enters into our soul instead to murder or do harm to others. But Satan can only kill the body, but not the breath of God (soul) which lives on.

I believe these have already been pre-programmed and planned by God to give a dying person a chance to repent for his sins and previous mistakes in life.

There were stories of people who have died, saw another world beyond our dimension, came back to this world to relive an entirely different life again with love and compassion for others. They never wanted to go back to their old ways anymore.

Another question people ask is, does the soul leave the body first, then the body dies, or does the body die first before the soul leaves? This is a highly interesting question yet requires a very complicated answer. But I shall try to make it very, very simple to answer using an analogy of a lamp. Actually, I have already answered that giving the scenario of a clinically dead person whose life support is withdrawn. The soul remains and hovers outside the body for some time before leaving.

Let me illustrate this in another way in the form of a parable.

Imagine a lighted lamp with a body containing the spirit (alcohol) or oil. As long as we leave the lamp alone and not lift out the wick from the body of the lamp, the flame (the flame of life, warmth and light) will not go off. But once we lift the wick off from the bottle containing the spirit (oil or fuel) the flame would still burn for some time by feeding on the remaining spirit still on the wick till there is no more spirit, and the lamp goes off. But if we put back the wick into the body of the lamp where there is spirit before the flame is extinguished, it will burn and relive again.

This is exactly what happens from accounts of people who died and were brought back to life. They met with an accident and have temporarily died on the scene or in a hospital. Their souls left and floated outside their bodies and hover above the streets, buildings, hospitals, etc.  They could clearly see everything that was going on as their clinically dead bodies were being brought back to life again by paramedics and other kind souls helping. Thus, aptly the saying “a kind soul helping another soul”. A friend in need is a friend indeed. He was lifted out from his body – the body of the lamp, but was put back into the lamp again.

This is exactly the same as the parable of the lamp I have just written where you lift off the wick from the lamp temporarily, only to place them back into the body.

In summary, everything in life journey till the end of the life Conveyer's Belt has been pre-programmed and we cannot change that destiny.

I hope I have explained, and others can appreciate this. Unfortunately, most of us are socially, and spiritually blind and unresponsive.

Dear Doctor Lim

I have read a lot of your highly interesting and very enlightening articles. I am one of your tens of thousands of fans and followers of your blog.

May I ask you if you truly believe there is life after death?
I hope you can enlighten us as a doctor, a medical researcher and a scientist in a logical way.

Sago into Rice?

Here is something I just read which immediately made me write my comments right away here as a food scientist, nutritionist, and clinician...
